Was the "Amazing Randi" really a high school dropout?

Searching the internet it would seem to be true, but Randi's fan base is really entertainment orientated and it wouldn't be realistic to expect his fans to be particularly concerned with his credentials. Randall James Hamilton Zwinge (The Amazing Randi's real name) writes books that sell well and has a good stage presence. People won't hold him to the same standards as scientists and I wouldn't expect them to. His job is self-promotion.
