Why do conservatives hate Thomas Jefferson?

I'm not certain that they (conservatives) would not disagree with anything in the quote you have posted but still the words "separation of church and state" are not included in the constitution and even if they were they would not prohibit people from applying their own religious faith to voting, for this is the free expression of their own religious views.
