Information on Norman Surnames?

I did some research on my last name. I found that it is Norman. I dont really know what that means. Does that mean my ancestors came from Normandy when it was still a country. What language did they speak? If someone asked me where are your ancestors form do I say France? or England, because I think the Normans were the last to invade England. Any help clearing this up would be great.
