Why does Satanism get confused with Devil worship?

Satanism is about self-improvement and empowerment, not the sick, deranged beliefs of the Devil worshippers. We do not sacrifice animals, or drink blood, or any of that perverted stuff. We do not follow the Christian Faith, in fact, we can disprove anything in the bible, or anything else that is Christian, as they stole it from older, more stable religions. Devil worship only came about after the Church decided that Satan, instead of being Shaitan and meaning "The Shining One" would now mean advasary, thus advasary of God arouse. Then, Demon, or Daemon, which originally ment "One of Great Wisdom" was perverted to mean "One of Great Evil" thus implying that wisdom to the mes was "evil." Only after all these changes (and believe you me, there was a lot more than listed here) did the world see Devil worshippers, criminals who take Satan's name and parade it around like they are cool or something like that. So, why do people get Satanism and Devil worship confused?
